Dear Friends of classical and chambered music
You’ve proved to us that you would choose it
Instead of fare that seems more glamorous
(Or is it just that it’s more clamorous?).
You love to watch while Art is made
And hear the sounds of Muse obeyed.
We are, it seems, in sweet accord -
Great music live is our reward.
We thank you all for past assistance -
And proudly note - we've gone the distance!
Our Decennium has now arrived
(That's year TEN for the Latin deprived).
For you, in August, a smorgasbord
Of string and song and artful chord:
Some Early Music, some Mid, some Late,
Some Secret Guests – some Known, some Great.
Nine years of splendid music made;
Nine World Premiers - the pieces played
In churches, chapels, and on Inn Street,
(With stinging bugs and steaming heat!).
In carriage houses and our Library.
At concert's end we choose to tarry
And chat and eat and drink a glass -
And praise ourselves for time well passed.
As so we should! And do! And will!
For time with Art will always thrill.
Which brings us to our pressing next matter-
The why behind this rhyming blather.
It seems we've got to pay 'the bills'
If valuing our artists' skills
Is what we claim to be eschewing.
And if we don't – 'tis our undoing!
So Friends, here’s the essential list:
And hope that you will bend your wrist
And write a check to keep us here.
Without your help-we'd disappear-
In silence then we'd sit and sigh
And wonder how and when and why
It happened that our summer spree
Left town, left us, with just CDs.
