From the start, when Jane Niebling and I founded NCMF, I had a vision of coming up with my family. Since then, I’ve had the privilege of both my daughters performing here with me. It is a unique pleasure to have our 2025 Composer-in-Residence, Guthrie Ramsey, arriving with his daughter, the talented Bridget Ramsey, a classically-trained soprano who can also mix it up with the best in jazz and R&B. A potent combination, indeed.

This summer they’ll be performing some arrangements that Guthrie has composed. The centerpiece is the world premiere "Beat Chick: Tunes for Hettie Jones."

Phyllis Molinary & Artie Butler, arr. Ramsey: “Here's to Life"

Sammy Fain & Jack Yellen, arr. Ramsey: "The Wildest Gal in Town"

Joan Baez (b. 1941), arr. Ramsey: “Oh, What a Beautiful City”

George Gershwin (1898 - 1937): “Summertime” from Porgy and Bess

Eddie Cooley & Otis Blackwell, arr. Ramsey: “Fever”

Guthrie Ramsey (b.1958): "Beat Chick: Tunes for Hettie Jones"
for string quartet, jazz vocalist, and digital beats

I sat down over the ether with Bridget a few months ago to get to know her better.

Classical musicians don’t do “jam” for a reason, if by that you mean sitting down and improvising.
