The only winner of two Naumburg Awards—for chamber music and solo singing—American soprano Lucy Shelton is an internationally recognized exponent of 20th- and 21st-century repertory, having premiered over 100 works by many of today’s preeminent composers, including Elliott Carter and Oliver Knussen. She has sung Pierre Boulez’s Le Visage Nuptialunder the composer’s direction, and performed Kurtag’s The Sayings of Peter Bornemisza with pianist Sir Andras Schiff in Vienna, Berlin, and London. Ms. Shelton has exhibited special skill in dramatic works, including Berio’s Passaggio with the Ensemble InterContemporain, Sir Michael Tippett’s The Midsummer Marriage for Thames Television, Dallapiccola’s Il Prigioniero at the BBC Proms, and Bernard Rands’ Canti Lunatici. Additional highlights include a grammy Nomination and honorary doctorate degrees from Boston Conservatory and a Distinguished Alumni Award from New England Conservatory. Most recently, Lucy performed in legendary Finnish composer Kaija Saariaho's opera Innocence at the Metropolitan Opera.
