Winter Baroque - Andover

This year, the Newburyport Chamber Music Festival presents its annual Winter Baroque concert two times - once in Andover and then in Newburyport. Tickets go on sale on November 1st.

NCMF brings back firecracker violinist Amelia Sie with her high-octane charisma alongside Alessandra Yang’s earnest and nuanced music-making on viola and viola d'amore. Cellist Eliana Razzino Yang returns with Italian harpsichord player Nicola Canzano to complete the continuo section.

The program, a kind of musical comfort food, presents a mix of baroque music from Italy and Germany as well as a unique world premiere trio sonata. Commissioned for this concert from Juilliard-faculty harpsichordist Nicola Canzano, the piece, "Our Towne,” (working title) is a character work illustrating a half dozen or so 18th century Newburyport personages and written in the baroque style. Performances also include stormy Italian music by Marcello and Castello; a mysterious Biber sonata for violin; and the emotional depth of a Bach sarabande for solo cello. Garth Knox’s duo with violin will showcase the viola d’amore’s (literally “viola of love”) silvery sound.

The concert is an hour and a quarter. There is no intermission.
