How Shostakovich got started

Ah, the winter holidays – Christmas decorations, holiday parties, takeout Chinese food, and a baroque world premiere in Newburyport. For the second year in a row, we have a new piece on the upcoming Winter Baroque concert: a trio sonata for violin and viola, cello and harpsichord, by composer and harpsichord player, Nicola Canzano.
In the conversation below, I ask Nicola about his writing process and what makes a good piece of music, which leads to some good old fashioned polemica.

The concert is at 3:00 on Sunday and should run about an hour and a quarter. I'm told that tickets are flying out the door but still available.
See you this weekend,
David Yang, Artistic Director

David YangI've done some pretty crazy stuff for NCMF but this might be the wackiest.
NCMF relies on the assistance of corporations, foundations, and most importantly, you.
